Warrior

Warrior Class Codex Trimmed

There is no one more physically able or better suited to combat than the Warrior. For many, war is their birthright; for others, it is their passion; while for some, it is simply all they know. Regardless, Warriors are always most comfortable with cold steel in their hands and the warm blood of their foes at their feet.

Warriors combine the battle fury of Barbarians and tactical vigor of Soldiers, to transform themselves into relentless machines of war. When their sword arm grows tired from delivering precision strikes and the fog of war consumes the best laid plans, the warrior simply embraces the flow of combat, giving himself to it, fueling him, and letting him stretch beyond the capabilities of a simple soldier.

Primary Skills

Warriors combine real battlefield experience with training through mock combat and physical drills, to hone their skills and tactics. While a pure Vigor class tires out in prolonged combat and a pure Fury class typically starts out slow, Warriors combine their two primary skill sets to both start and end strong, making them among the most proficient physical combatants.

Vigor

Learning new Vigor Skills is a function of training. The simplest way to learn a new Vigor skill is to pay a Combat Trainer to teach the skill that is of interest. However, Warriors can also pick up new skills from an experienced fellow Warrior, Soldier, Ranger, Marksman or other Vigor class. Once a skill is learned, it can be improved simply though repeated use.

New vigor skills require training unless they are upgrades (i.e. Offensive Stance -> Improved Offensive Stance), see Learning New Vigor Skills for details.

Fury

Warriors follow the standard methods of gaining fury in combat by both inflicting and taking damage.

Gain +1 Fury for every killing blow Dealing Normal Damage Dealing Crit Damage Taking Normal Damage Taking Crit Damage
Physical Attack w/ 1 Handed Weapon +1 Fury +2 Fury +1 Fury +2 Fury
Physical Attack w/ 2 Handed Weapon +2 Fury +4 Fury +2 Fury +4 Fury

Learning new Vigor Skills is a function of training. The simplest way to learn a new Vigor skill is to pay a Combat Trainer to teach the skill that is of interest. However, Warriors can also pick up new skills from an experienced fellow Warrior, Barbarian, Berserker, Pit-fighter or other Fury Class. Once a skill is learned, it can be improved simply though repeated use.

New fury skills require training unless they are upgrades (i.e. Berserker Strike -> Improved Berserker Strike), see Learning New Fury Skills for details.

Level Ups

Warriors use the following chart for leveling up:

HP Dice (Hearty): Small Race (1d10), Medium Race (1d12), Large Race (1d12)

Notes:

  1. Re-calculate Vigor Max each level
  2. New vigor abilities require training unless they are upgrades (i.e. Offensive Stance -> Improved Offensive Stance), see Learning New Vigor Abilities for details
  3. Re-calculate Fury Max each level
  4. New fury abilities require training unless they are upgrades (i.e. Berserker Strike -> Improved Berserker Strike), see Learning New Fury Abilities for details

Specializations

Specializations are recommended for advanced players only, and are accomplished through the Secondary Skill system (see Specialist Skills). Warriors may choose to specialize their skills in up to one weapon use and/or one combat styles.

  • Max one Weapon Specialist skill (choose from: Knives, Swords, Bludgeons, Axes, Hand Weapons, Polearms, Whips, Bows, Crossbows)
  • Max one Combat Specialist skill (choose from: Sword & Board, Freehand, Great Weapon, Paired Weapon, Freestyle, Sharp Shooter, Skirmisher, Peltast, Warder, Mounted)

Title System

Warriors gain titles based on their deeds and reputation both on and off the battlefield (though mostly on it!). This system of gaining titles is referred to as Renown.

The titles awarded by a Warrior’s Renown are as follows:

Common Builds

  • “Sword and Board” tank
  • “Skirmisher” Dual wield melee damage
  • “Heavy hitter” Two-handed weapon melee damage
  • “Peltast” throwing weapon ranged damage

Notable Characters

Abolish, Champion of East Arll

Former Orc slave and member of the Stoneguard, ally of Heroes Guild and hero of the War for the Tindermoot. Fought in the climatic battle against the Maw of the Void in the Halfling port of Pearl, instrumental in the destruction of the Void Gate.

An instant later the trio of frozen Void Spiders were shattered into thousands of pieces, as a pair of axes smashed into two of them. The final spider was obliterated by a vicious head butt from a well-muscled green skin in the depths of a battle frenzy. The unrestrained violence of it all was punctuated by the guttural battle cry of “ABOLISH!!!”
